Last Friday, my good friend Ruth Crnkovich gave us a surprise visit at the Zhou B Art Center to preview Mario Gonzalez Jr’s solo exhibition at 33 Contemporary Gallery. We had a great time visiting Mario’s studio and talking art while sitting around my desk at 33.  Ruth is an avid art appraiser, art historian, curator, critic and she has held various positions in galleries and museums. Most importantly, she is someone you should know. Ruth has started her own blog and recently posted a commentary on Mario’s work and the role of graffiti in America.  Check out the link below to read her commentary…. enjoy!

“Gonzalez explained that although his lines and strokes may appear to be random or a type of patterning, each mark had a specific meaning. At one point during the conversation, he grabbed a black pen and walked over to the wall in his studio and started marking directly onto the wall.” Ruth Crnkovich.
